WARNING: MAJOR NA’VI SPOILERS AHEAD!

My latest project has me Composing and Doing Sound Design for Season 3 of a web show called ADA Sport (Animation Dance Association) and my first exposure to working with Animation pieces.

The Animation Dance Association (ADA Sport) is a global competition where eight (8) professional animation teams compete against each other for the ADA Sport Championship Title.

Each team creates 20-90 second animated clips with various dancing character(s) and/or objects. Viewers from all over the world vote to choose the best animation. The results of the polls are announced daily in a live ADA Sport Face-Off.

I am part of the Eagles which has teamed me up again with Associate Producer Stuart Paap who played Stuart on the web series “Hurtling Through Space at an Alarming Rate!” .

The first piece “After-tar!” is a tongue in cheek parody on the highest grossing moving of all time.  If you’re one of the handful of people who hasn’t seen Avatar yet, this could ruin it for you so beware!

Although being a parody, I wanted to pay homage to composer James Horner’s great score. Here’s a sample of some of the music from “After-tar!”

Now for the sound design.  Avatar’s sound editor Christopher Boyes created an amazing soundscape putting the audience into the world of Pandora.  Trying my hand at the Banshee I used a combination of a Cougar, Elephant and Servo effect, pitch shifting and stretching them to create something familiar, yet alien.

For the Titanothere that causes some problems for our hero Jake, I took a Gorilla and Lion roar, using the same techniques as the Banshee and came up with this effect:
